SIDECARS

“180 degrees” is a new comforting song, something like going to the usual bar and having your people still there, those you know but who never stop surprising you, those you need to listen to to continue understanding things. It is not the return of Sidecars because they have not left, they have had the bar open all this time, with that “background noise” in the midst of so much silence, with that music that they have kept alive live. They are not gone, but entering that place and finding that something new sounds, well played, well felt, continues to reconcile you with the things you believe in. It is comforting to arrive at the bar and have your people confess their confusion (so shared), that feeling that there is no one at the wheel, that it saturates reality. “180 degrees” is the continuation of the state of grace that Sidecars are experiencing, a song that is sharper than it seems (“we celebrate the first anniversary in tears”), full of details and winks, although not as many as the video clip has, absolutely fun in its accumulation of “thirteens”, which works as a preamble to what is to come. Video and song confirm the desire to stay there to listen to what’s new from Sidecars, those friends who have the ability to sing our song, even if it’s not always about love, even if it’s not always about heartbreak…
